Celebrate Halloween by enjoying the spooky decor, festive rides, and trick-or-treating at California theme parks.

If you can get to Disneyland or another park for Halloween, try a fun twist to the traditional door-to-door tradition. Not only will the kids get treats, but they'll also be thrilled with seeing their favorite theme park decked out with jack-o-lanterns, ghosts and goblins, and costumed characters. Make Halloween extra special this year by celebrating the holiday at one of the following theme parks. Get in the spirit by wearing costumes, but be sure to bring a comfortable change of clothes as well.

Disneyland

Step into a world of candy and costumes as Disneyland is transformed for Halloween. With a ghoulish parade, spectacular fireworks, a Main Street Pumpkin Festival and a 16-foot tall Mickey Mouse jack-o-lantern, the park is sure to be a hit with the entire family.

Little ones will enjoy Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Halloween party. It is an evening event held at Disneyland on Tuesdays and Fridays in October, as well as Halloween night. Tickets range from $49-$59. Children under two are free.

Older kids will enjoy the spooky three-hour ghost tour that includes a ride on the following attractions: Tower of Terror, Space Mountain, Snow White's Scary Adventure, Thunder Mountain, and Haunted Mansion.

In true Disney style, the merchandise and snacks throughout the park cater to the holiday with things like chocolate Mickey Halloween cookies and 'pumpkin head' mouse ears.

Knott's Berry Farm

Kids age 3-11 will be delighted to attend Snoopy's Costume Party in Camp Spooky at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. The party will be held weekends in October. Children are encouraged to dress up in their favorite Halloween costume and participate in trick-or-treating, get their groove on at the Monster Dance Party, take part in the costume parade, or meander through the Haunted Harvest cornfield maze. To add to the entertainment, kids won't want to miss out on the Peanuts Halloween Spooktacular live show and take a trip to the pumpkin patch.

For those looking for fright, the park is transformed into Knott's "Scary " Farm, complete with 1,000 wandering monsters. The 160-acres becomes a live scene from a gruesome horror movie. This is not for the faint of heart. Children under age 13 are discouraged from attending and no costumes are allowed. Tickets to attend the "Haunt" range from $33-$50 and the event begins at 7 p.m. A Pre-Scare Boo-ffet dinner is offered for $20.99

Want to get up close and personal with the zombies? Escorted tours available with front-of-the-line priority on Haunt rides.

California's Great America

Looking for some Halloween fun in Northern California? Great America in Santa Clara, California also features the Snoopy Costume Party and the frightening Halloween Haunt.

Wherever you plan to spend the holiday, be safe, have fun and enjoy the treats.
